Position: Commercial Construction Superintendent (ground up)

Our client is a highly sought‑after, stable, and prestigious General Contractor in hyper growth mode and they are in need of an experienced Ground Up Commercial Construction Superintendent for automobile dealership development projects occurring in San Diego, CA. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Managing the day‑to‑day field activities to ensure project milestone dates and overall schedule completion date are met.
  • Creating short‑interval look‑ahead project schedules to communicate, track, and proactively address upcoming events and issues.
  • Managing the project site safety plan and fostering a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness.
  • Coordinating work to ensure construction follows contract documents and industry best‑practice standards.
  • Establishing and maintaining dimensional controls, including use of third‑party survey and layout personnel when appropriate.
  • Verifying that all work is installed in a workmanlike manner (e.g., plumb, level, straight).
  • Obtaining all inspections and ensuring quality aspects of physical work are fully documented.
  • Ensuring compliance with all contract terms, legal requirements, and community regulations.
  • Administering client‑specific programs such as Landlord/Site Rules, Safety, Site‑Specific Security, etc.
  • Conducting and/or attending pre‑construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings.
  • Managing self‑performed activities to keep work within the established project budget.
  • Managing changes in project scope to use the most recent documents and prevent avoidable rework.
  • Administering contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and other agreements to ensure consistent terms and conditions.
  • Managing the punch list and project closeout process for timely completion.
  • Maintaining daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and email correspondence.
  • Providing timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups (e.g., client’s internal IS department, vendors, security).
  • Completing project schedules for proposals, reviewing estimates, assisting in creating proposals, and participating in interviews.
  • Engaged in marketing and obtaining projects.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the company’s goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Previous experience handling tilt‑up and ground‑up commercial construction projects.
  • Tenant Improvement (TI) experience.
  • Experience in automobile dealership builds is a major plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or similar, or Journeyman status in a building trade from an accredited organization (e.g., Carpenter) and demonstrated experience of progressive responsibility supervising construction.
  • Understanding of construction means and methods for renovating and constructing commercial and institutional buildings and related site work.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, scheduling, Microsoft Office, and other construction industry software.
  • Current safety credentials including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR.

  • Understands project control and change order management.
