Position: Teacher of English for Leave Coverage
Pacific Ridge School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school in Carlsbad, California with approximately 640 students in grades six through twelve. Position We seek a temporary teacher of English, beginning in the Fall 2026 through Spring 2027. This position will teach three sections. Ideal candidates will be able to teach at the upper school level, with particular experience supporting reading and writing development. In recruiting new members of our faculty, we look for educators who:

Share our commitment to designing and facilitating student-centered experiences at the Harkness table

Understand how to effectively guide students through the writing process, with an emphasis on communicating effectively for various purposes and audiences

Develop and implement instructional and assessment strategies that deepen reading skills, with an emphasis on interpreting, evaluating, and appreciating a text’s purpose, style, and significance in academic, professional, and personal settings

Know students as individuals and actively cultivate an inclusive learning environment that honors diverse identities, experiences, expressions, and perspectives

Believe in the ability of all students to learn deeply and make a priority of responding to their needs

Thrive in collaborative settings and pursue opportunities to learn with and from colleagues

Engage in reflection around their teaching practice and commit to ongoing professional learning and growth

Demonstrate cultural competence and commit to inclusivity in their classroom, curriculum, and the larger school community

Enjoy designing curriculum as part of a teaching team

Hold an advanced degree in a related field (bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred)
Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience at the secondary level

Responsibilities

Teach three English 10 sections, collaborating regularly with teachers on that teaching team to design and implement that curriculum

Serve on grade-level, departmental, and teaching teams

Contribute to the co-curricular program by leading an advisory, club, service learning group, and/or alliance/affinity group as assigned

Other responsibilities include chaperoning on-campus events, attending faculty meetings, and participating in student-led conferences

Hold an advanced degree in a related field (bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred)
Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience at the secondary level

Salary and Benefits Compensation for this temporary position is pro-rated based on the school’s full-year salary schedule. The estimated pay range for the coverage period of Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 is $33,228 - $63,459. Compensation is based on years of experience, education, and other factors.
