Chevron Shale & Tights Business Unit is accepting online applications for the position of Production Specialist, Subsurface at our Carlsbad, NM facility, through March 12th, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CST.
The Production Specialist, Subsurface, provides technical and operational subsurface support to ensure safe, compliant, and optimized well performance. This role partners closely with Operations, Integrated Operations Center (IOC), Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM), Well Lifecycle Management (WLM), Central Maintenance, Regulatory, Electrical & Instrumentation Services (EIS), and Chemical teams to execute workflows, troubleshoot artificial lift systems, support regulatory compliance, and drive production optimization across assigned assets.
Responsibilitiesmay include, but are not limited to:
Workflow & Systems Execution
- Review Petrasoft daily to execute assigned workflows.
- Execute Centaur and Petrasoft workflows and push action items to closure.
- Monitor and adjust XSPOC and Petrasoft set points to ensure optimal well performance.
- Work with Artificial Lift Specialist, Production Specialist - Technology, and Senior Chemical Specialists for pump job execution and tracking.
- Execute H-5, H-15, Bradenhead, and MIT regulatory compliance testing.
- Support Tier 2 SCP activities including blowdowns and pressure management.
- Support non-compliance fluid level shots when required.
- Act as Fluid Level Subject Matter Expert (SME), supporting interpretation and building competency of Field Specialists.
- Conduct weekly fluid level shots for conversions, gas lift wells, and post-rig activity.
- Create master TAM files when necessary.
- Update master TAM files to reflect post-workover wellbore diagrams.
- Support Operations with TAM files and shared folder organization.
- Assist IOC and Operations with troubleshooting of artificial lift systems, including ESP, gas lift/UGL, rod pumps, jet drive, and plunger lift.
- Consult IOC and Operations on pull request data accuracy through coaching and mentoring.
- Coordinate ESP troubleshooting with IOC and ESP technicians.
- Support rod pump maintenance and optimization including unit swaps, belt swaps, unit alignment, raising/lowering rods, and vendor unit adjustments.
- Troubleshoot gas lift and UGL valve issues, perf pods, and pump jobs.
- Manage plunger lift performance and optimization.
- Support small-scale flowback activities for short-term operational needs (not flowback prior to POP).
- Maintain Well Control Certification.
- Support well kill operations as required.
- Coordinate with Chemical Representatives on pumping jobs.
- Assist Well Lifecycle Management (WLM) with wellhead maintenance.
- Support rod pump, gas lift pump, plunger assisted gas lift, and electronic submissible pump intervention work.
- Perform lifting, rigging, and working-at-heights activities associated with subsurface operations.
- Serve as PSSR lead for all well conversions, with support from Field Coordinators or Senior FSAs.
- Program POC and verify pump action following rig activity.
- Support RTP and unloading while monitoring post-rig well performance.
- Conduct weekly inspections of rod and tubing rotators following conversions and rig activity.
- Support frac hit mitigation efforts including post-frac protection RTP coordination and tracking.
- Assist ALS with anchor testing for assigned areas.
- Execute assigned workflows and ensure timely completion of action items.
- Experience supporting production or subsurface operations in oil and gas.
- Working knowledge of artificial lift systems and well operations.
- Experience with Pelaton-Wellview, Petrasoft, Centaur, XSPOC, Microsoft Programs, PI Vision, Energy Components, and TAM files.
- Well Control Certification or ability to obtain.
- Ability to safely perform field work including lifting, rigging, and working at heights.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coach and mentor field personnel.
- Experience serving as a fluid shot or artificial lift SME.
- Experience supporting well conversions and post-rig activity.
- Familiarity with regulatory testing and compliance requirements.
Relocation may be considered within Chevron's parameters.
