R&D Technician – Prototype & Lab Support

Location:

Carlsbad, CA

Pay: $36/hour

We are seeking a hands‑on R&D Electro‑Mechanical Technician to support engineering teams in the design, build, and testing of prototype devices and electro‑mechanical systems. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in lab testing, PCB design support, electro‑mechanical fixtures, and R&D prototype development.

This position works closely with R&D engineers and scientists to fabricate, assemble, and troubleshoot test fixtures and prototype systems used in validation, verification (V&V), and product development environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and fabricate electro‑mechanical fixtures for R&D testing and prototype builds
  • Interpret engineering schematics and support fabrication of digital, analog, and RF boards
  • Use Solid Works and PCB design tools (Altium, OrCAD) to support mechanical and electronic fixture development
  • Assist with prototype device builds for characterization, V&V testing, and production validation
  • Execute test procedures, troubleshoot systems, and support external testing labs and vendors
  • Maintain calibration records for lab equipment and ensure compliance with quality systems
  • Organize, maintain, and improve laboratory workspace and equipment readiness
  • Operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and digital multimeters
  • Support updates to test protocols, documentation, and technical reports
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in Electrical, Mechanical, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in R&D lab support, electro‑mechanical assembly, or test engineering
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and design documentation
  • Experience with PCB layout/design tools (Altium, OrCAD preferred)
  • Familiarity with lab equipment and test environments
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced engineering environment
