About Proper Voltage

Proper Voltage is unlocking the next generation of battery technology across robotics, data centers, and defense.

We're building intelligent battery systems that make advanced chemistries (sodium-ion, lithium-titanate, lithium-silicon) work in products that were never designed for them. Humanoid robots can upgrade power systems without redesigning their entire platform. Data centers get safer, cheaper backup power. Drones and autonomous vehicles get higher energy density without lengthy integration cycles.

If you want to work on hard engineering problems that matter this is the place.

Job Overview

We're looking for a resourceful, hands‑on Lab Technician to support our electronics and battery test operations. This isn't a "watch‑the‑screen" role. You'll be on the bench, in the lab, and elbow-deep in test setups every day. You thrive when handed a half‑built fixture and a vague requirement, and you take pride in turning ambiguity into a working solution.

What you’ll do
  • Build, modify, and maintain test fixtures, rigs, and support structures for battery cell, module, and pack‑level testing
  • Fabricate custom mechanical and electrical assemblies using hand tools, basic machine shop equipment, and bench‑top electronics tools (soldering, crimping, wiring harnesses)
  • Interpret rough sketches, verbal instructions, or incomplete specs to design and execute practical test support solutions
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate test equipment including power supplies, electronic loads, data acquisition systems, and environmental chambers
  • Support test engineers by proactively identifying setup gaps and proposing pragmatic fixes
  • Assist with cell preparation, sample handling, and test article configuration following safety protocols
  • Maintain accurate lab logs, test records, and equipment maintenance schedules
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and test setup failures — diagnosing root cause before escalating
  • Keep the lab organized, stocked, and safe
Who You Are
  • You don't wait to be told exactly how to do something — you figure it out and check in when it matters
  • You're comfortable saying "I haven't done this before, but here's how I'd approach it"
  • You leave things better than you found them — cleaner bench, better‑labeled cables, improved fixture
  • You take safety seriously, especially around energized cells and high‑current systems
  • You work well independently and as part of a small, fast‑moving technical team .
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience in a lab, machine shop, manufacturing, or technical trade environment
  • Demonstrated fabrication skills. You've built things, not just watched things get built
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous situations: you ask good questions, make reasonable assumptions, and iterate
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools; basic metalworking, sheet metal, or structural fabrication a plus
  • Soldering and basic electronics assembly skills (through‑hole, wire termination, connector installation)
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and a safety-first mindset when working with high-voltage or high-energy systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with battery or electrochemical systems (Li‑ion, LFP, NiMH, or similar)
  • Exposure to test automation hardware (relay switching, signal conditioning, DAQ systems)
  • Familiarity with lab safety standards for high-voltage and hazardous materials environments
  • Experience with 3D printing, CNC, or light machining for fixture fabrication
  • Trade school, associates degree, or military technical training in electronics, electrical, or mechanical fields
Benefits and Compensation
  • $65,000 to $85,000 dependent on your skills, qualification, and experience.
  • Equity options as part of the compensation package.
  • Generous paid time off and paid holidays (PTO) policy.
