O’Day Consultants is seeking a full-time mid-level Civil Engineer with 5-8 years of experience to support their engineering design team in Carlsbad, CA. The Civil Engineer will work under the direction of a Project Manager, and work with other engineers, designers, and technicians in the preparation of grading, roadway, site development, and utility (sewer, water, and storm drain) plans and reports.
Other tasks will include project property research, preliminary designs and tentative maps, boundary, and easement plotting, as well as survey and construction staking calculations.
- A minimum of 5-8 years of relevant design experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
- Strong AutoCAD and Civil 3D skills (proficiency in Open Roads Designer is a plus)
- Knowledge of hydrology and water quality design
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Good oral and written skills
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Engineering or a related field
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) will be a plus
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in municipal infrastructure and / or private development projects
- Strong proficiency in understanding complex civil engineering drawings, scope and fees, and technical reports.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to respond to proposals by collaborative participation in proposal, scope and fee authorship for new work
- Effectively use MS Office and modern digital tools (e.g., Word, Excel, Windows Explorer, Dropbox, public agency portals, etc.) to effectively complete work and collaborate to meet client needs
- Physical presence at the Carlsbad, CA office during regular working hours (i.e., M-F, 8 am-5 pm, precise hours flexible)
- Knowledge of land surveying principles and procedures
- CA RWQCB QSD / QSP Certification
- SWMM, HEC RAS, or similar storm water modeling software experience
