Technician Level 1 – Console Technician (Medical Devices)
Join a dynamic medical device manufacturing team as a Technician Level 1 Console Technician, where you assemble, program, and test complex electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, and optical sub-assemblies for advanced medical laser console systems. You will work hands-on with precision components, follow detailed work instructions, and ensure each console meets stringent quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities- Assemble and integrate precision electro-mechanical, opto-mechanical, and optical components into medical laser consoles in accordance with detailed work instructions, drawings, and procedures.
- Program embedded hardware and software systems and configure firmware or system settings required for proper console operation.
- Conduct functional and diagnostic testing of sub-assemblies and final console systems using custom test fixtures, laser-related instrumentation, and other test equipment.
- Document all test results, work performed, and any non-conformances accurately in manufacturing records, logs, and electronic databases.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during assembly or testing, identify root causes, and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and other teams to resolve problems.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety procedures, laser safety practices, cleanroom requirements, and quality system regulations such as GMP and ISO standards.
- Support ongoing process improvement initiatives, including 5S activities and lean manufacturing practices, to enhance efficiency, quality, and workplace organization.
- Handle optical components such as lenses, filters, mirrors, and beam paths with care to maintain alignment, cleanliness, and performance.
- Follow ESD procedures when working with sensitive electronic components and adhere to cleanroom protocols as required.
- Use basic hand tools and mechanical assembly techniques to build, adjust, and repair sub-assemblies and console components.
- At least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment assembling and testing complex electro-mechanical or electronic sub-systems.
- Hands-on experience with electronic assembly and basic testing at the sub-assembly level.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools and mechanical assembly techniques.
- Good mechanical aptitude, including comfort working with tools and mechanical systems such as those used in automotive or maintenance work.
- Experience assembling optical systems, including lenses, filters, mirrors, and beam paths, and understanding of basic laser safety practices.
- Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset when following work instructions and documenting work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and recording manufacturing data.
- Ability to sit, stand, and perform fine motor tasks for extended periods during assembly and testing operations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally as part of handling equipment, fixtures, and components.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and electronic manufacturing documentation for tracking work orders and recording data.
- Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) procedures and cleanroom protocols in a manufacturing environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a maintenance technician or similar hands-on technical role is beneficial.
- Experience working with lasers, optical, mechanical, and electrical test setups.
- Comfort working in a regulated manufacturing environment following GMP and ISO quality system requirements.
- Experience participating in 5S and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues.
