We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to support the development of next-generation in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products and molecular diagnostic assays. In this role, you will work closely with Scientists and Engineers to design, execute, and optimize experiments focused on DNA- and RNA-based detection technologies.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques, including PCR-based assays, nucleic acid extraction, and assay development. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to innovative diagnostic solutions that improve healthcare outcomes and global health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
+ Support product development activities for molecular diagnostic and IVD programs under the guidance of scientific staff.
+ Design, execute, and optimize experiments to evaluate assay performance on both benchtop platforms and integrated disposable devices.
+ Develop and improve DNA- and RNA-based assays to meet analytical performance, sensitivity, specificity, and reliability targets.
+ Analyze experimental data, draw meaningful conclusions, and recommend next steps to advance project objectives.
+ Troubleshoot assay, reagent, and device-related performance issues using a data-driven and scientific approach.
+ Maintain accurate experimental records and comply with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) to ensure traceability and reproducibility.
+ Prepare technical reports, summaries, graphs, and presentations to communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
+ Collaborate with scientists and engineers to integrate assays into automated device platforms.
+ Perform routine molecular biology, microbiology, and sample preparation procedures while adhering to laboratory safety and aseptic practices.
+ Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced product development environment.
+ Contribute innovative ideas that enhance assay performance, workflow efficiency, and product design.
Required Qualifications Education
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related Life Sciences discipline.
Experience
+ Minimum 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, assay development, or diagnostic product development.
+ Experience designing, executing, and analyzing laboratory experiments independently.
+ Proven ability to document, organize, and communicate scientific results effectively.
Technical Skills
+ Strong understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, or related scientific disciplines.
+ Hands-on experience with:
+ PCR, qPCR, and/or digital PCR
+ Nucleic acid extraction and sample preparation
+ DNA and RNA assay development
+ Bacterial culture and microbiology techniques
+ Laboratory instrumentation and data analysis software
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

+ Knowledge of spectrophotometry, buffer formulation, and reagent development.
+ Experience presenting scientific findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
+ Exposure to regulated environments, including design control or quality system processes.
+ Passion for advancing molecular diagnostics and improving global health outcomes.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carlsbad, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $31.00/hr.
