Scientist II, Protein Purification
We are seeking a Scientist II, Protein Purification to join our growing team in Carlsbad, CA. This role is responsible for executing and supporting protein purification and manufacturing operations within a controlled laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with chromatography-based purification processes, tangential flow filtration (TFF), and protein characterization techniques while maintaining compliance with quality and documentation requirements.

Key Responsibilities- Execute protein purification processes using Cytiva ÄKTA FPLC systems (UNICORN software) and/or Bio-Rad NGC chromatography systems.
- Perform chromatography operations including: affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, and other protein purification methodologies.
- Conduct tangential flow filtration (TFF) processes for protein concentration, diafiltration, and purification.
- Prepare buffers, reagents, and process solutions according to standard operating procedures.
- Perform analytical testing and characterization, including SDS-PAGE and other protein quality assessments.
- Monitor process performance and evaluate chromatography data to ensure product quality and process efficiency.
- Troubleshoot technical and process-related issues and assist with deviation investigations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and manage inventory of materials and supplies.
- Support process optimization initiatives, validation activities, and equipment qualifications.
- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Technical Operations teams.
- Ensure compliance with quality systems, safety procedures, and controlled documentation practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on protein purification experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or bioprocessing environment.
- Experience executing end-to-end protein purification processes, including buffer preparation, protein characterization, process monitoring, yield optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience operating Cytiva ÄKTA FPLC systems with UNICORN software and/or Bio-Rad NGC chromatography systems.
- Strong understanding of protein chemistry and downstream processing principles.
- Experience with tangential flow filtration (TFF).
- Familiarity with quality systems, GMP-regulated environments, or controlled documentation practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting manufacturing-scale protein production.
- Previous involvement with process development, validation, or technology transfer activities.
- Experience working in regulated biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environments.
- Ability to work onsite in a laboratory and manufacturing setting.
- Comfortable working in cold room environments (approximately 4°C / 39°F).
- Ability to stand for extended periods during the workday.
- Ability to lift and move laboratory materials and equipment as needed.
- Flexibility to support production schedules and business needs.

Pay and Benefits:
