Location

This position is in Carlsbad, California at our corporate headquarters. We offer a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office (subject to change), provided if metrics such as productivity and the quality of the deliverables are achieved.

Job Summary

The Senior Software Developer is a key technical contributor responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high‑quality software solutions that meet GIA’s business needs. The role exists to deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable applications using modern development practices, while collaborating closely with product, engineering, and support teams. This position ensures consistent software quality through strong coding standards, testing discipline, and continuous improvement.

Ultimately, the role enables GIA to deliver reliable, high‑performing applications that support its mission and operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • 20% - Code, test, and implement software solutions that meet functional and technical requirements.
  • 15% - Develop high‑performance, loosely coupled services using modern frameworks and patterns.
  • 12% - Write and maintain unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to ensure quality and deployability.
  • 12% - Refactor code and uphold high standards for maintainability and readability.
  • 10% - Stay current on trends in application architecture, cloud, and modern development practices.
  • 10% - Define and maintain technical standards and procedures for consistent implementation.
  • 8% - Collaborate with front‑end/back‑end developers and stakeholders to improve user experience.
  • 8% - Review support requests and identify opportunities to prevent recurring issues.
  • 5% - Participate in Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement; perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Qualifications and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Previous Work Experience, including Leadership Experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years of IT experience, with at least 2 years building front‑end and/or back‑end systems.
  • Technical / Domain Specific / Functional Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience with web frameworks (e.g., Angular, NodeJS), version control, CI/CD, and Agile practices. Familiarity with relational and No

    SQL databases.
  • GIA or G&J Industry Specific Experience and Knowledge
  • Familiarity with laboratories, grading, or operational technology environments is preferred but not required.
Job Competencies
  • Strong object‑oriented design and application architecture knowledge.
  • Hands‑on experience with modern web and backend technologies (Spring, Micronaut preferred).
