Redemption Games, a small well‑funded elite group of mobile gaming veterans, is looking for an experienced backend engineer to join our team and lead backend development. This is an opportunity to make a big impact and be in an environment and culture that takes pride in the craftsmanship of creating highly successful free‑to‑play mobile games.
This role will be for driving the strategy and execution of server authoritative features, including the delivery and deployment of live event configurations, admin tools, and server support for new features in a new real‑time PVP cross‑platform game. Our tech stack is built entirely on the Google Cloud platform, and the ideal candidate will have experience with this technology.
In this role, you will
- Work closely with designers, artists to implement game features as per design specification
- Design the technical architecture and approach to expanding the game’s systems and content
- Write well‑designed, efficient, and well‑tested code for backend services
- Iterate rapidly and respond well to constructive feedback from peers
- Help establish best practices for game system implementation and workflows
- Work with other engineers in planning, conducting code reviews, and ongoing improvements to the backend infrastructure
- Maintain regularly deployed and reliable services for a high DAU game. Work comfortably within an agile and distributed team environment
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience working with Google Cloud
- 3+ years of experience in NodeJS, JavaScript/Typescript
- Experience with Cloud Run, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions or Firebase equivalent
- Experience with large scale application development and deployment
- 5+ years of programming experience
- Shipped at least 1 game title
- Demonstrated experience in building and optimizing backend services for mobile applications (iOS/Android)
- Demonstrated ownership and commitment to projects/tasks
- Self‑motivated and able to respond quickly to feedback
- Previous full‑stack development experience preferred
