Job DescriptionWe are seeking an imaginative, skillful, and versatile Technical Artist to join our team. As a Technical Artist at High Moon you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary group that bridges art, design, and engineering, helping create high‑quality content while optimizing pipelines and tools.
What You’ll Do- Help define technical quality standards and oversee art pipeline development.
- Contribute to artistic techniques and processes to define and achieve the product’s visual style and encourage technical evolution.
- Provide input on technical methods to achieve the artistic goals through all phases of the game development cycle.
- Create tools and processes that assist in authoring environment art, VFX, destruction simulations, animation, lighting, and post‑process effects.
- Stay current on industry‑standard content creation tools and techniques.
- Create and maintain technical documentation.
- Work with other tech artists/engineers to identify and implement art‑pipeline optimizations and create technical benchmarks for production.
- Offer technical support to the art team in day‑by‑day production issues.
- Assist in game profiling and generate reports to help content creators stay within budget.
This role is based in our Carlsbad, CA office and follows an onsite work schedule of four days per week. Work arrangements may change at the company's discretion to meet business needs.
Required Qualifications- 5+ years’ experience in technical art or technical animation roles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engineers and artists.
- Thorough knowledge of content creation tools such as Photoshop, Maya, Max, Houdini, Substance Designer, etc.
- Excellent time‑management skills with ability to prioritize tasks and assignments.
- Object‑oriented software design skills using Python, C#, C++, or similar languages.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of linear algebra (vector math) for 3D environments.
- Programming experience in Python and C++.
- Experience building Houdini assets.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $29.81 – $55.14 hourly. Compensation is negotiable based on experience, performance, and location.
