Machine Learning Engineer Intern - Predictive Modeling

You will be part of the team that is optimizing the quality‑of‑experience (QoE) delivered to our customers via our global satellite network. We develop services that assess QoE and that automate the allocation of network resources so as to optimize QoE outcomes.

By optimizing how we allocate capacity, we can enhance the value that we get from the billions of dollars we have invested in our satellite network while improving customer experience. As a member of our team, you will develop predictive models that estimate the amount of network capacity required to achieve target QoE.

Our team is comprised of systems, ML, and traffic management domain experts, most of whom have advanced degrees.

• Work with large data sets
• Create ML models in the AWS Sagemaker environment
• Develop techniques to validate and improve your models
• Effectively wrangle data, identify inconsistencies, and clean large amounts of data using software tools

• Currently pursuing Master’s degree or higher in engineering/computer science, preferably a last semester ML engineering candidate or 2nd+ year PhD computer science candidate
• Strong foundation in mathematics and statistics, including an understanding of linear algebra

• Experience with machine learning algorithms:
  Knowledge of and experience with various machine learning techniques such as decision trees, logistic regression, support vector machines, and neural networks

• Programming skills:
  Strong programming skills in a language like Python that can be used for data cleaning, preparation, and modeling are needed

• Experience with data manipulation and analysis

• Analytical and critical thinking skills

• Curiosity and eagerness to learn:
  You should be continuously seeking to learn about new techniques, trends, and technologies in machine learning and data science

• Effective communications with different stakeholders, including business leaders, domain experts, and software developers
• Collaborative working approach that embraces a cross‑functional team distributed across multiple time zones
• Specific domain knowledge in the following areas will be helpful, but is not essential: a) transport and MAC‑layer networking, b) Video streaming

$21 - $66 / hourly

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
