Teacher duties and responsibilities include designing and implementing authentic and engaging learning experiences using the New Mexico adopted content standards, WIDA/ELD standards, and the Carlsbad Municipal Schools adopted curriculum. Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area and use the approved curriculum with fidelity. Give clear expectations relating to lesson content and procedure. Communicate accurately in the content area. Show interrelatedness across content areas.

Use teaching techniques which address student learning levels, rates, and styles. Use materials and media which address student learning levels, rates, and styles. Provide small group, one to one instruction when needed. Use teaching and learning strategies to recognize student diversity and culture. Create an atmosphere conducive to positive student involvement and self-concept. Use a variety of tools, instructional resources, and teaching modalities to personalize and enhance instruction based upon the needs of students.

Establish a safe and supportive environment that is conducive to learning and enables each student to demonstrate agency, ownership, and reflection. Comprehend the principles of student growth, development, and the teaching learning cycle, and actively apply them appropriately. Comprehend and actively implement New Mexico's Multi Layered System of Supports (MLSS) to support holistic student success. Understand and actively participate in the development, use, and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP), Individual Transition/504 plans, and Academic Improvement Plans, including making necessary modifications.

Adhere to Carlsbad Municipal Schools assessment and grading policy and guidelines. Assess student growth as related to educational goals, objectives, and outcomes. Actively use and analyze a variety of assessment tools and data to drive instruction, implement strategies, and offer remediation. Actively maintain records of student progress and communicate student progress with students and families in a timely manner. Maintain communication and notify parents of struggling students.

Work in a collaborative and supportive manner with colleagues, students, parents, and the community to promote and support student learning. Communicate in a professional manner with colleagues, parents, and community members regarding educational matters. Work with administration to meet professional requirements and responsibilities. Be punctual in attendance and in responding to timeline and due dates. Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code policy established by Carlsbad Municipal Schools.

Serve duties and supervise students as assigned. Leave adequate preparations for a substitute. Serve on committees requested. Keep teaching credentials current. When assigned, direct the work of teacher assistants, student teachers, and volunteers to provide an effective learning environment. Support and actively participate in the school's professional learning community to deepen the understanding of curriculum, content, competencies, assessment, and the developmental needs of students.

Create a positive atmosphere and arrange the physical environment of the classroom for optimum learning. Seek out information on methodology, research, current trends in education to enhance student learning.
