Minimum Qualifications (NCCER-Aligned)

  • Documented journey-level (or higher) status in Electrical (e.g., completed registered apprenticeship; state journeyman/master license; or equivalent education and verifiable experience).
  • Current NCCER Certified Craft Instructor for Electrical (or ability to obtain prior to the first class) via the Instructor Certification Training Program (ICTP), delivered by an NCCER Master Trainer and under an Accredited Training Sponsor (ATS).
  • Ability to use NCCER systems (Learning Platform, Online Testing, Performance Evaluation, Registry) and follow testing and security procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, coaching, or conducting OJT/skills training for adult learners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NCCER Curriculum Performance Evaluator and Module Test Proctor credentials (or eligible to obtain per ATS policy).
  • Prior experience teaching NCCER Electrical Levels and using NCCERconnect.
  • New Mexico journeyman or master electrician license (or reciprocating license).

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience as approved by the Human Resources Department.

Purpose and Scope

SENMC seeks experienced electricians to deliver Related Technical Instruction (RTI) for registered apprenticeship pathways using NCCER Electrical Levels 1–4 curriculum. NCCER’s Electrical program integrates National Electrical Code® (NEC) coverage throughout and complies with U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship standards, making it a strong foundation for RTI delivery. Instruction is in-person and may use NCCER’s digital resources where appropriate.

  • Level 1:
    Orientation to the electrical trade; safety; electrical theory and circuits; introduction to the NEC; device boxes; hand bending; raceways and fittings; conductors and cables; construction documents; residential wiring; electrical test equipment.
  • Levels 2–4:
    Alternating current; lighting; conduit systems; grounding and bonding; circuit protection; control systems; load calculations (branch/feeder and services); transformers; commercial services; motor theory/controls; hazardous locations; fire alarm systems; medium-voltage terminations/splices; crew leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver learning-centered RTI aligned to NCCER Electrical Levels (1–4), emphasizing safety, NEC application, and job-ready skills for apprentices.
  • Prepare syllabi, lesson plans, labs, and assessments using NCCER curriculum resources and the Instructor Toolbox / NCCERconnect as appropriate.
