Mine Engineering Technician

Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Mine Engineering Technician and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will perform the duties of the Mine Engineering Technician, but not limited to the following: working with the survey engineering technicians and performing field surveying tasks as required (underground and surface); providing data reduction; drawing preparation; maintaining survey data files and reports; coordination of survey equipment maintenance and calibration.

• High School Diploma or Equivalency with four (4) years of surveying experience is required.
• Experience with surveying and drafting software packages used for processing and managing survey data records is mandatory.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

• Familiarity with modern survey equipment including electronic levels, total stations, laser scanner and GPS equipment.
• Two years underground surveying experience.
• Working knowledge of mine surveying using laser and other electronic processes is preferred.
• Experience with Carlson Mining Software is desired.
• Experience in salt type deposits who is familiar with the dependent nature of salt and knowledgeable about its impacts on surveying is preferred.
• Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Non-exempt grade level(s) 27-28. Salary range: $64,714 to $104,167 --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
