Mechanical Tech II

Location: Carlsbad, NM
Schedule: 14/14 Rotational
Target Pay Rate: $30/hr

Position Overview

The Mechanical Tech II is responsible for performing maintenance and mechanical support activities at the Cowboy Cryo Plant. This role supports plant reliability, equipment performance, and operational continuity while maintaining strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.

Technicians may be contractor resources and typically report to a supervisor. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strong field experience and hands-on mechanical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers in planning and testing of mechanical components and equipment
  • Support startup, operation, and repair of plant equipment as needed
  • Assist I&E and Mechanics with troubleshooting and repair of plant systems
  • Help prepare proposals and cost estimates
  • Actively participate in all on-the-job safety tools and procedures
  • Review job packs prior to execution
  • Identify and mitigate safety issues before beginning work
  • Prioritize, plan, and execute assigned tasks within scheduling deadlines
  • Record technical history in required systems (Global Reliability Tool (GRT), data sheets, etc.)
  • Provide feedback on job pack improvements to Execution FLS
  • Create permits and notify Supervisor if permit issuance is delayed beyond 30 minutes
  • Maintain facility roads and grounds (may include operation of heavy equipment)
Required Experience
  • 10+ years of closely related mechanical field experience
  • Experience working in plant or cryogenic facility environments preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical repair background
  • Ability to work independently while supporting team operations
Education / Certifications
  • Discipline-appropriate certification(s) or equivalent professional experience
  • Crane or heavy equipment certifications a plus
Technical Skills
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with plant systems, engines, instruments, and controls
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience documenting work in maintenance management systems
