SummaryThe primary role of the Corrosion Technician is to operate and maintain the cathodic protection (CP), coating, corrosion inhibition, and monitoring (i.e., external and internal) systems through planning and implementation of corrosion control for pipelines, terminals, and other facilities including assistance with design, installation, operation, and maintenance. A Corrosion Technician applies Summit's engineering standards, material and work specifications, corrosion control equipment and tools, corrosion control system operations, regulatory requirements, maintenance procedures and safe work practices.
- Plan and perform duties involved with testing, evaluation and installation of external and internal corrosion systems to control corrosion on assets
- Conduct scheduled cathodic protection surveys in compliance with Department of Transportation 192 & 195
- Test, adjust and maintain existing cathodic protection equipment and testing facilities
- Inspects and reads all rectifiers, anodes, foreign bonds and pipelines including casing test points as necessary
- Conducts interference tests that measure cathodic protection and other electrical effects
- Tracks and maintains all internal corrosion monitoring devices
- Maintains corrosion and corrosion protection records for reporting requirement
- Analyze equipment failures and participate in Root Cause Analysis evaluations
- As a member of safety-sensitive position, position requires employee to work weekends, on-call and holidays as needed
- Responsible for batch and continuous chemical treatments and injections
- Analyze and evaluate corrosion control data and develop action plans to assist in assuring development of cost effective solutions consistent with corporate philosophy
- Computerizes and trends corrosion data and reports results to Corrosion Engineering Manager and Operations Manager
- Monitors third party crossings and encroachments and works with encroaching parties
- Assist with designs, installations and maintaining corrosion control systems for all assigned Company assets
- Plan and perform duties involved with testing, evaluation and installation of external and internal corrosion systems to control corrosion on assets
- Review the following reports/data and provide corrosion related evaluation and follow-up recommendations and actions: failure analysis, external direct assessment (or subset), bacteria testing results, soil resistivity, Induced AC modeling, etc.
