Responsibilities- Operate and maintain cathodic protection (CP), coating, corrosion inhibition, and monitoring systems for pipelines, terminals, and other facilities; assist with design, installation, operation, and maintenance of corrosion control programs.
- Plan and perform testing, evaluation, and installation of external and internal corrosion systems to control corrosion on assets.
- Conduct scheduled cathodic protection surveys in compliance with DOT Part 192 & 195; test, adjust and maintain CP equipment and testing facilities.
- Inspect and read rectifiers, anodes, bonds, and pipelines; conduct interference tests and monitor internal corrosion devices.
- Analyze corrosion data, trends, and failures; participate in root cause analyses and develop cost-effective corrective actions.
- Maintain corrosion records and prepare reports; provide corrosion mitigation support for gathering, transmission, and storage facilities.
- Coordinate with Summit operations or contractors on corrosion control projects and participate in project teams as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (state, federal, and company) and Operator Qualification requirements.
- Maintain professional relationships with industry organizations (e.g., AAMP/NACE) and participate in audits or coordination meetings as required.
- Assist other Corrosion Technicians with processes and best practices; inspect installation of new corrosion control equipment and testing facilities; provide troubleshooting support.
- Maintain required state, federal, and company procedure records and perform administrative duties as needed.
- High School diploma or equivalent; 5+ years of experience with current corrosion control methods and NACE CP 2 Certification or higher.
- 5+ years of CP troubleshooting experience and familiarity with internal corrosion methods and recordkeeping.
- Experience with CIS, DCVG, and ACVG surveys; working knowledge of CFR 195 Subpart H & 192 Subpart I.
- Ability to read and integrate with other departments to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Familiarity with American Innovations CPDM module is a plus; proficiency with computer programs such as Maximo and AX is beneficial.
- Complete annual cathodic protection surveys; conduct rectifier and bond inspections; test and troubleshoot CP systems.
- Evaluate corrosion issues and provide mitigation recommendations; monitor CP and internal corrosion control systems for compliance.
- Produce corrosion compliance reports; coordinate corrosion control projects with operations or contractors.
- Provide corrosion control support on integrated project teams and maintain documentation as required.
- Dexterity to use tools and equipment; ability to climb, work at heights, and lift up to 50 lbs with occasional handling up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work in standing, sitting, crouched, or kneeling positions and in confined spaces; travel away from area as needed (approximately 25%).
- Ability to access elevated areas via stairs or ladders and work in extreme temperatures; willingness to work weekends, on-call, and holidays as required.
- Must wear appropriate PPE and respond to abnormal conditions, alarms, and beacons.
