Responsibilities
- Prepare and monitor plans to assess, improve or expand natural resources, and alleviate or eliminate detrimental management impacts created by other resource uses on the landscape.
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIA) to evaluate potential harm from new projects or activities.
- Use environmental modeling tools to predict potential effects of pollutants or resource extraction.
- Conduct geological surveys to identify potential deposits of fluid minerals, geothermal reservoirs, or natural gas fields.
- Evaluate the size, quality, and commercial viability of identified mineral or resource deposits.
- Ensure development projects comply with environmental regulations, land use laws, and resource extraction standards.
- Monitor progress of ongoing tasks and overall project milestones to ensure deadlines are met.
- Determine tools and techniques for data collection (surveys, experiments, observations) ensuring they are valid and reliable.
- Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum one year of specialized experience at GS‑05 level or equivalent private or public sector experience.
- For GS‑07: at least one year of specialized experience at GS‑07 level or equivalent.
- For GS‑09: at least one year of specialized experience at GS‑07 level or equivalent.
- Graduate education: 1 year of graduate study in relevant fields for GS‑07; 2 years for GS‑09.
- Proof of education: official or unofficial transcripts, plus, if necessary, a memorandum on institutional letterhead indicating course equivalency.
- U.S. citizenship or national; background investigation; selective service registration for males born after 12/31/59.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Suitability for employment as determined by background investigation.
- Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/59.
- Cannot hold an active real estate license or have interests in firms with interests in federal lands.
- Participation in Direct Deposit program.
- Valid state driver’s license; must obtain within 30 days of start date.
Employment is subject to a one‑year probationary or trial period. Travel and relocation expenses are the responsibility of the employee; PCS entitlements are not authorized. Certain incentives may be authorized for eligible selectees on a case‑by‑case basis. Candidates must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
