Overview
Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Instrumentation and Controls Maintenance Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities- The successful candidate will provide direct technical support to the Zone Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Provide direction to and oversight of craft personnel in the field.
- Interface with craft, operations, and engineering personnel on a routine basis to support continued plant operations.
- Act as site technical representative to subcontractors.
- Ensure maintenance activities conform to all applicable DOE, MSHA, OSHA, and New Mexico Mining Code requirements and site procedures.
- Perform routine inspections of field equipment and systems for proper operations and identify any deficiencies.
- Act as Supervisor when Zone Manager and Supervisor are unavailable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Associate’s degree with four (4) years of related instrumentation experience including but not limited to electrical/electronic/pneumatic and hydraulic experience.
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of related instrumentation experience including but not limited to electrical/electronic/pneumatic and hydraulic experience.
- Experience in troubleshooting performance of equipment/system activities is mandatory.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft Word and experience with complex computer database applications.
- Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
- This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM) which defines requirements for personnel selection, training, qualification and certification requirements at DOE Nuclear Facilities. Individuals applying to TIM positions will be evaluated in accordance with DOE O 426.2A, and may need to provide additional information and/or receive concurrence from the DOE for placement. - Knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems maintenance is preferred.
- Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Exempt grade level(s) 28-30. Salary Range $69,444 - $120,913 per year – the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
