SummaryThe Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist will be responsible for performing geospatial analysis, managing geospatial information, and coordinating geospatial activities. This role involves translating raw land‑based data into code, conducting spatial analysis, and supporting GIS‑related projects to promote effective management of natural resources. Preference will be given to Alaska Native and/or American Indian applicants.
Responsibilities- Geospatial Analysis:
Implements analytical techniques to solve recurring geospatial issues, digits geographic information into code, reconciles coding errors, and conducts 3D/spatial analysis and modeling. - Geospatial Information Management:
Administers geospatial databases, performs quality control and assurance, researches and compiles geographic data from diverse sources, and provides technical support for GIS hardware and software. - Geospatial Coordination:
Collaborates with local resources specialists, planners, and managers to implement GIS activities, develop project objectives, evaluate data sources, create and modify GIS themes and databases, prepare final output products, incorporate GIS data into planning documents, and participate in interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of related experience.
- Experience with geospatial data management and analysis, including database administration and quality control.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Geospatial Science, or a related field (preferred).
