Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Conduct of Operations Speciliast and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Background

The Conduct of Operations (Con Ops) team is dedicated to support the WIPP in its vision to be the model of Operational Excellence and project management. Con Ops ensures managment systems are designed to anticipate and mitigate the consquences of human fallibility or latenet organizational weaknesses and provide a vital barrier to unwanted outcomes.

Job Summary

Responsible for leading the Con Ops organization mission of continuous improvement and building a capacity for resiliency. Provides Con Ops and Human Performance Improvement expertise, collaborates across the WIPP enterprise to enable best practices, coaching and positive reinforcement and provides guidance through development, implementation and validation of continuous improvement applications.

Essential Responsibities

Responsibilities of this position can be categorized:
1) coaching and mentoring to align vision and strategy for Operational Excellence, and
2) assesing compliance and identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiencies. Duties that support these responsibilities include:

  • Lead motivate, and support teams. Fastening a culture of high performance and accountability, maintain communication with managers, staff and vendors to ensure proper operational practices are performed.
  • Interface frequently with workforce and managment to apply expertise and integrate Con Ops and Human Performance Improvement concepts and principles through coaching and positive reinforcement.
  • Develop assessment plans to evaluate compliance with Con Ops elements, act as the primary interface and generate the final assessment report. Includes Safety Management Program assessment and pulse updates.
  • Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate ability to perform work safely in accordance with approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulation and perform assigned duties in a safe manner.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of professional experience, or
  • Associate’s degree with six (6) years of professional experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of professional experience is required.

Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

Preferred Requirements
  • Previous experience at a DOE Nuclear Facility
  • Knowledge interpreting and enforcing DOE Orders and Handbooks pertaining to Nuclear Facilities (DOE O 422, Conduct of Operations, DOE-HDBK-, Human Performance Improvement Handbook, Con Ops Implementation Handbook, Con Ops Assesement Handbook).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Demonstrated proficiency to collect and analyze information and sovle problems base on facts and figures.
