Overview

Position:
Natural Resources Specialist, GS-0401-07/09 at BLM Division of Resources, Carlsbad, New Mexico. One vacancy currently open. Additional positions may be added if available.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and monitor plans to assess, improve or expand natural resources, and alleviate detrimental management impacts from other resource uses.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments to evaluate potential harm from new projects or activities.
  • Use environmental modeling tools to predict effects of pollutants or resource extraction.
  • Conduct geological surveys to identify potential deposits of mineral, geothermal, or natural gas resources.
  • Evaluate size, quality, and commercial viability of identified deposits.
  • Ensure development projects comply with environmental regulations, land use laws, and resource extraction standards.
  • Monitor progress of ongoing tasks and project milestones to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Determine appropriate tools and techniques for data collection, ensuring validity and reliability.
Education & Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related field.
  • Applicants may use a combination of education and experience to qualify; required documentation of educational credentials must be provided.
  • Graduate education is a plus; one academic year of graduate study considered equivalent to 18 semester hours.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency to U.S. accredited programs.
