Location:

Carlsbad, New Mexico

Employment Type:

Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Field Scientist / Field Geologist to support environmental remediation projects throughout New Mexico’s oilfield regions. Based in Carlsbad, this role is field-focused and central to the investigation and cleanup of soil and groundwater contamination. You will apply technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and field leadership to ensure compliance with New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) requirements while contributing to environmental restoration efforts that matter to both the community and industry.

This is a great opportunity for someone to get their foot in the door and grow within the environmental consulting industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations including soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor sampling in accordance with NMED/EPA standards.
  • Oversee remediation activities including excavation monitoring, confirmatory sampling, and adaptive in-field decision-making.
  • Supervise drilling operations (direct-push, auger, and monitoring well installations) and ensure proper chain-of-custody and documentation.
  • Lead environmental site assessments (Phase I & II ESAs), spill response, and post‑cleanup verification.
  • Operate field instruments such as PID/FID meters, water‑quality probes, GPS units, and GIS software.
  • Prepare accurate daily field logs, sampling documentation, and regulatory‑ready reports.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, drilling crews, clients, and project managers to ensure smooth field operations and effective remediation strategies.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety plans (HAZWOPER, HASP) in active oilfield environments.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of field experience in environmental consulting or remediation.
  • Demonstrated experience working on New Mexico environmental sites with knowledge of NMED regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.
  • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Oilfield remediation experience (spill response, soil excavation, groundwater recovery).
  • Familiarity with regulatory communications to NMED.
  • Experience with ISNetworld or Veriforce compliance systems.
  • GIS mapping or digital field data platforms.
  • First Aid/CPR certification and mechanical troubleshooting ability.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily outdoor work in oilfield and remote environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent travel to regional project sites, with occasional overnight stays.
  • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs., standing for long periods, and navigating uneven terrain.
Why Join Us
  • Full benefits: health insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and training.
  • Diverse project exposure across all phases of environmental remediation—from investigation to site closure.
  • Opportunity to directly contribute to environmental restoration in one of the nation’s most active oilfield regions.
  • Supportive culture built on safety, technical expertise, and professional growth.
  • A career‑building role for those ready to learn, grow, and advance.
Please Note:
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S, no sponsorship is available.
  • Relocation reimbursement is not available.
  • Must live within commuting distance of Carlsbad, NM.
  • Must be available to start within 2–3 weeks of offer.
