Short DescriptionThe General Construction Laborer is responsible for cleaning and preparing construction sites for the erection of structures and buildings, unloading and loading materials, reading plans and specifications, tending machines, and assisting concrete finishers, carpenters, operating engineers, and other construction site workers.
Job DescriptionSummary/Objective:
We are looking for a flexible, results-driven team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. Must possess a good understanding of general construction and repair methods, and familiarity with materials and equipment used in varying construction conditions.
- Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds and occasionally more with help.
- See well (either naturally or with correction).
- Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands and fingers.
- Use hands and arms fully to reach for, handle and manipulate objects.
- Climb and maintain body balance on ladders and scaffolding.
- Stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, crawl, or work for long periods at required heights.
- Access multiple levels of height and depth.
- Access confined spaces.
- Load, transport, unload, and furnish experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
- Dig, spread and level dirt and gravel.
- Join, wrap and seal sections of pipe.
- Perform a variety of routine tasks such as removing forms from set concrete, filling expansion joints, measuring distances from grade stakes, driving stakes, and stretching tight line.
- Bolt, nail, align and block up under forms.
- Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications.
- Erect scaffolding, shoring and braces.
- Mop, brush or spread paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces.
- Spray materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint or stucco.
- Apply caulking compounds.
- Grind, sand or polish surfaces.
- Place culvert sections in trench.
- Assemble sections of dredge pipeline.
- Remove wallpaper.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work EnvironmentLaborers may work in cramped spaces, with continuous exposure to dust, fumes and odors, dampness, noise levels, or outside weather conditions.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position can require strenuous physical work, including frequent lifting and carrying of objects over 20 pounds, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, and working in confined spaces or on irregular surfaces.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications- Must pass a pre-employment screen, including drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check, and physical (if applicable).
- Current and valid driver’s license in the state of permanent residence, insurable by Jaynes automobile insurance carrier to drive a Jaynes vehicle.
- Proof of current completion of a general course recognized by Jaynes in Hazardous Substances – Recognition and Protection; if applicable, must attend the next available class.
