Position Description General Summary
An equipment operator operates a variety of equipment including tractor, scraper, forklift, bobcat, backhoe, excavator, front-end loader, side-boom, semi-tractor with trailer etc.
Essential Job Functions- Ability to read and write in English.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English.
- Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of Lock Out / Tag Out process.
- Knowledge of technology (iPads, cellphones, etc.).
- Knowledge of Stop Work Authority (SWA).
- Ability to complete training for Behavioral Safety Process.
- Ability to work with pipe and hand wrenches, hammers, shovels and gas monitors.
- Ability to use gas monitors and loads.
- Knowledge of rigging and binding equipment.
- Ability to operate various types of equipment controls (Case, John Deere, Caterpillar, etc.) and load charts.
- Ability to demonstrate basic construction safety rules.
- Ability to work in confined spaces for long periods at a time.
Preferably 1–2 years of industry experience along with knowledge of tools.
Physical & Mental RequirementsLift, pull, jack, grasp, raise or lower up to 50 lbs using fingers, palms or wrists and manipulate objects. Lift and lower objects from one level to another. Twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions, with or without objects. Exert force to move an object away. Carry and support objects, usually holding them in hands, arms or on the shoulders.
Work in supine, seated or standing positions.
The locations vary from site to site. Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based. Walking and working surfaces vary depending on terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.
Working HoursNormally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5–10 h shifts.
