Purpose and Scope
The FHE Mechanic installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts pumps, control valves and meters, strainers and filters, water separators, and pipelines of liquid fuel systems for airfields, including bulk storage installations and conventional/unconventional refueling systems used in fuel storage distribution systems.
Essential Responsibilities- Perform annual preventive maintenance and inspections on fuel servicing equipment, storage and dispensing systems.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and correct equipment malfunctions, repairs and replacements.
- Inspect, diagnose and perform major and minor repair work on motors, pumps, hydraulic equipment, compressors, controls, valves and related equipment.
- Apply knowledge of system design, physical properties and hazards associated with various petroleum fuels, chemicals, alcohol, and pipe fitting and mechanical skills.
- Perform periodic inspections to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings and malfunctions of mechanical units, meters, gauges, hoses, fuel bladders, hydrants, tank pits, distribution lines, storage tanks, turbines, pumps and control rooms.
- Inspect electrical wiring, switches and controls for safe operating condition, grounding and adjustment.
- Repair, replace and adjust malfunctioning equipment to restore operating condition to specifications.
- Disassemble, adjust, align and calibrate gauges and meters.
- Clean storage tanks and remove/install old or new equipment such as meters, filters, pipe systems, pit covers and vents.
- Conduct follow‑up inspections of contractor and in‑house repairs and maintain records of maintenance inspections and repairs.
- Perform all phases of liquid‑fuel system maintenance including troubleshooting, repairs and modifications of installed systems.
- Lubricate and repack valves, lubricate pumps, replace gaskets and seals, correct pumping equipment misalignment, clean strainers and filters, service filter air separators and check meters for correct delivery and calibration.
- Maintain fuel and other systems involving high pressure and toxic gases for miscellaneous industrial activities, as required.
- Update inventory, status, process purchase requests and order parts needed for repairs, if needed.
- Participate in testing of seams and areas suspected of leakage.
- Use hand and power tools such as torque wrenches, meters, bearing and gear puller, specific gravity scales, bench grinders, hydraulic presses, pipe threading machine, cutting torch and other test equipment.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and provide solutions to repair them.
- Communicate with team members to discuss scope or progress of jobs.
- Maintain good customer relations and support program objectives.
- Work safety at all times—adhere to all applicable safety policies.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.
- Perform all other position related duties as assigned.
- One year certificate from college or technical school with five (5) years’ experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers.
- Ability to coordinate with vendors for parts requisition and equipment certificates.
- Ability to fill out detailed reports and keep records on services performed.
- Ability to navigate Computer Management Systems.
- Must be a self‑starter able to work independently without much supervision to manage time and achieve maintenance and production goals.
