International Minerals Carlsbad LLC is seeking an experienced Mine Power Electrician to support the repair, maintenance, and installation of underground electrical systems and electronically controlled mining equipment.

This position is responsible for troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems, maintaining high-voltage distribution systems, programming electronic controls, and supporting underground equipment installations and advances. The ideal candidate has underground mine electrical experience, strong troubleshooting capabilities, and working knowledge of programmable logic controllers, variable frequency drives, digital electronics, and electrical schematics.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Install, program, maintain, and repair electronically controlled underground mining equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot underground high-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical problems affecting conveyor belt lines and related equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers and variable frequency drive belt controllers.
  • Use multimeters, megohmmeters, and other electrical testing and fault-finding equipment.
  • Read, interpret, develop, and update electrical schematics and circuit diagrams.
  • Perform electrical installations, repairs, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Support the installation and advancement of underground electrical systems and mining equipment.
  • Maintain electrical components associated with mobile mining equipment.
  • Perform equipment layout, design, fabrication, and modifications to improve existing systems.
  • Complete cutting and welding repairs when required.
  • Apply proper rigging techniques when lifting or positioning heavy equipment and materials.
  • Inspect electrical systems and identify damaged components, unsafe conditions, or potential equipment failures.
  • Follow technical instructions and analyze and monitor electrical equipment performance.
  • Learn new equipment, control systems, processes, and maintenance procedures.
  • Document completed work and communicate equipment conditions or recurring issues to supervisors and coworkers.
  • Follow all electrical safety requirements, lockout and tagout procedures, and company safety standards.
  • Work rotating shifts, 12-hour schedules, overtime, and callouts as required.
  • Perform additional underground electrical and maintenance duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital electronics and electronic control systems.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code requirements applicable to the work.
  • Working knowledge of high-voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers and variable frequency drives.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot belt controllers and related logic-control systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and prepare electrical schematics and circuit diagrams.
  • Ability to use multimeters, megohmmeters, and electrical fault-finding equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical equipment problems.
  • Ability to perform cutting, welding, fabrication, and equipment-modification activities.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment when rigging and moving heavy loads.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand basic English.
  • Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts and required overtime.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience as an underground mine journeyman electrician.
  • Experience maintaining underground conveyor systems and belt-line electrical equipment.
  • Experience with underground high-voltage power distribution.
  • Experience programming programmable logic controllers and variable frequency drives.
  • Experience maintaining electrically controlled mobile mining equipment.
  • Experience supporting underground equipment installations and mine advances.
Physical Requirements

The Mine Power Electrician must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

  • Lifting and moving tools, equipment, and materials weighing approximately 50 pounds.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and equipment and working at various heights.
  • Working in underground and restricted-access areas.
  • Distinguishing colors, patterns, wiring, markings, and materials.
