Summary
You will serve as a Recreation Fee Technician at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of technically challenging duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA).
MajorDuties
- Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
- Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.
- Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions; perform opening and closing functions; issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc.
- Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies needed.
- Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.); assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings; communicate audit results to supervisor.
- Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected;
Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors. - Review and verify the functionality of new fee related systems or modifications to existing systems as a result of regulatory and program requirements.
- Provide informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc.
This position does not allow substituting education for experience.
RequirementsMust be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. Fee SAC clearance will be required in order to collect fees in the NPS. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency;
whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized.
