PositionPurpose
Designated Training Engineers (DTE) train the engineering team on equipment and operation in the facility. DTEs assist, review and develop training formats, maintain meticulous training records, and provide skilled leadership and technical expertise in support of the Chief Engineer. Responsibilities include writing and editing Method of Procedures (MOPs), Standard & Emergency Operating Procedures (SOP/EOP), and conducting incident investigations. DTEs also install, repair, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping equipment;
monitor building systems; and analyze data to ensure proper functioning of departmental equipment.
- Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on all building systems including fire and life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, generators, switch gear), emergency backup, and hot water systems.
- Analyze system operation, determine causes of problems or malfunctions, and take corrective action.
- Install and repair plumbing, piping, tubing, motors, conduits, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and electrical controls.
- Operate and maintain critical equipment such as UPS systems, generators, chillers, and air conditioning units.
- Record readings, maintain logs, and report any problems or malfunctions.
- Ensure safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain a clean, safe workplace.
- Oversee contractors working within the building, ensuring compliance with department policy and safety standards.
- Maintain records of building rounds, readings, engineering logs, and data sheets.
- Provide advanced training and notification to contractors on building critical functions and incident contact lists.
- Ensure understanding and compliance with emergency escalation procedures and the Working‑In‑Critical‑Areas policy.
- Adhere to JPMC GRE Standards, Technical Bulletins, and established engineering guidelines, processes, and procedures.
- Assist in identifying training needs, evaluating strengths and weaknesses, and building an annual training program.
- Develop instructional materials, handouts, job aids, and manuals; guide structured learning experiences and monitor training quality.
- Lead the Train‑the‑Trainer program on site and acclimate new hires through orientation and training sessions.
- Set up and manage training schedules and deliver training courses.
- Periodically evaluate ongoing programs to ensure they reflect changes and maintain complete records of all training initiatives.
- Assist with regular engineering duties requested by the Chief Engineer and perform additional job duties as requested.
- Hands‑on experience in a data center/critical facility, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switch‑gear.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills; prior instructor experience preferred.
- Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service and leadership ability among engineering peers.
