Why This Role MattersThe Senior Accountant serves as the operational lead within the Accounting department, partnering closely with the Senior Director of Accounting to oversee outsourced accounting operations, Accounts Payable, and construction draw accounting.
This role helps ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and reliable while supporting the continued growth of the organization. Success means month-end closes run smoothly, accounting operations remain well-controlled, and business partners can confidently rely on accurate financial information to make decisions.

- Build trusted relationships through clear communication, transparency, and accountability.
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations by overseeing outsourced accounting partners and ensuring accurate, timely completion of accounting activities.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes through journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, account analysis, and review of accounting transactions.
- Assist in oversight of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring invoices, approvals, accruals, and payment processes are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Coordinate construction draw accounting by reviewing contracts, payment applications, change orders, budget transfers, lien waivers, and supporting documentation while partnering with lenders, Development, Construction, and Finance teams.
- Develop, maintain, and improve accounting procedures, documentation, internal controls, and standard operating procedures.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and operational efficiencies that strengthen departmental performance.
- Monitor accounting workflows, quality, and departmental priorities while providing guidance to outsourced accounting partners and supporting cross-functional initiatives.
- Assist with audits, special projects, system implementations, onboarding, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Serve as the Senior Director of Accounting's delegate for designated operational matters during periods of absence.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
After 6–12 months in this role:
- Month-end close processes consistently meet deadlines with minimal corrections.
- Outsourced accounting operations and Accounts Payable workflows operate efficiently with strong quality controls.
- Construction draws are submitted accurately and on time with complete supporting documentation.
- Accounting processes become more standardized, documented, and scalable through continuous improvement efforts.
- Business partners view Accounting as a responsive, knowledgeable, and trusted resource.
- Success here is measured not only by accurate financial reporting, but by the trust you build across the organization.
Successful candidates typically bring:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. - Experience:
5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, construction, development, or property accounting. - Technical
Skills:
Strong understanding of GAAP; experience with Sage 300 CRE, Avid Xchange (or similar Accounts Payable workflow software), Microsoft Excel, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes. - Professional
Skills:
Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. - Take pride in accountability and ownership.
