The Head of Construction is accountable for the full execution and performance of Lauth Construction, including project delivery, profitability, team leadership, and process discipline across all construction activities. This role leads, manages, and is accountable for the construction team while owning business unit performance, project budgets, key industry relationships, and execution of scalable, repeatable processes. Success in this role requires an operator who can drive outcomes across preconstruction through project completion, build team accountability, and deliver projects on time, on budget, and aligned with Lauth’s standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, Manage, Accountability (LMA)- Establish clear accountability across construction (PMs, Supers, Precon, Project Services)
- Manage and apply EOS discipline within the construction business unit (L10s, Scorecards, Rocks)
- Drive hiring, development, and performance management of construction personnel
- Own Construction division P&L including profitability, cost control, and forecasting
- Monitor project financial performance across all active jobs and intervene early on risk
- Drive margin improvement through execution discipline, vendor strategy, and cost control
Lead, manage, and be accountable for the performance of the construction department (Preconstruction, Project Management, Field Operations, Project Services) for performance, execution, and alignment with company objectives. Ensure all projects are delivered on budget, on schedule, and to quality standards.
- Ensure effective turnover from Preconstruction through Construction Operations
- Resolve escalated project issues including disputes, delays, and cost overruns
Provide executive oversight of preconstruction to ensure alignment between initial estimates, project scope, and final construction budgets across all projects.
Direct and align preconstruction department leadership on scope definition, pricing strategy, and risk assumptions to support project feasibility and target margins.
Establish and enforce bid strategy, subcontractor selection standards, and procurement execution frameworks through department leadership, ensuring consistency, cost certainty, and alignment with company objectives.
Process & Systems- Refine and enhance standardized construction processes across all projects to ensure consistency, scalability, and operational discipline across all projects
- Ensure division‑wide adoption and optimization of core systems (Procore, cost tracking, reporting, Ninety) through leadership teams, driving visibility, data integrity, and informed decision‐making
Own and maintain key relationships with:
- Clients / owners
- Subcontractors and vendors
- Capital partners and stakeholders
Build trust through transparency in cost, schedule, and execution.
Support business development efforts and help secure new work.
Culture & Team Development- Build a performance‑driven, accountable construction culture
- Actively mentor and develop high‑potential team members
- Ensure alignment with Lauth core values and EOS discipline
- Maintain strong field‑to‑office alignment and team cohesion
- Construction business unit meets or exceeds annual P&L targets
- Projects delivered on budget and on schedule (portfolio‑level performance)
- Forecast accuracy across all projects
- Reduction in change orders driven by internal errors or gaps
- Subcontractor and client satisfaction / repeat business
- Adoption and consistent application of construction processes across all teams
- Strong bench of PMs, Supers, and future leaders
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field required
- Master’s degree in business administration or construction management preferred
- 15+ years of construction experience with increasing responsibility
- Proven experience leading large, complex commercial projects (industrial, multifamily, or similar scale)
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and driving performance
- Strong understanding of project budgeting and cost control, scheduling and field operations, contracting and risk management, experience owning or influencing P&L performance
