! Are you passionate about tackling complex challenges in electricity markets, operations, and infrastructure systems? As MISO's Markets Research and Development Senior Engineer
, you will work closely with engineers, analysts, and operators across the organization, applying engineering and operations research techniques to develop prototypes and drive data-informed decisions that support how electricity markets and grid operations function. You will use analytical and engineering techniques to evaluate electricity market changes and impacts, support data-driven decisions, and share findings with partners across the business. Responsibilities
  • Apply power engineering or operations research techniques to analyze complex data, evaluate multiple solutions, and recommend actions.
  • Develop and maintain computer modeling tools, execute simulations, and analyze results to support decision-making.
  • Gather, preprocess, and examine energy market or infrastructure data from multiple sources to drive accurate analysis and reporting.
  • Utilize advanced optimization, power engineering, control theory, and analytical techniques to develop algorithms and innovative solutions.
  • Clearly document findings through reports, charts, and presentations to communicate insights effectively and accurately.
  • Collaborate with MISO business teams, university researchers, and national lab partners to develop innovative solutions using simulations and analysis.
  • Partner with market design, operations, internal stakeholders, and external research organizations to advance solutions from concept to further development and production, delivering strategic and measurable value to MISO processes and members.
Qualifications
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience, with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, electrical and computer engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, or electronics and computer engineering technology (or a related degree and an additional 2+ years of internal experience).
  • Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Specific experience within any of the following: electricity market design, operations, or research and development; electricity market analysis; or system planning and development in the energy industry (required).
  • Previous design and development of software systems for electricity markets experience (preferred).
  • Understanding of electricity market principles, including electricity market tariffs, industry regulations, and NERC/FERC compliance requirements, with the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world market and operational challenges.
  • Experience in quantitative analysis, optimization algorithms, and mathematical modeling to represent complex engineering and economic systems and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Hands-on experience with power system modeling, simulation, and advanced analytics, integrating complex datasets from multiple sources to evaluate scenarios and outcomes.
Compensation and Benefits

The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $125,000 - $150,000 USD annually. Base salary range for this position is included in accordance with requirements of various state/local pay transparency legislation. Position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met. MISO offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 401k, vacation, sick and safe time, available on your first day of employment.
