Principal Electrical Power Market Engineer
As this role, you will help MISO carry out an efficient and fair Financial Transmission Rights Market to deliver on our vision of being the most reliable, value‑creating Regional Transmission Operator (RTO). You will collaborate with teams across MISO—including modeling, planning, outage coordination, credit, settlements, and operations—to administer the Energy Market and support hedging against volatility in transmission congestion charges faced by load‑serving entities.
You will also work on projects ranging from process automation to implementing market changes that ensure the MISO Financial Transmission Rights Market continues to provide value as renewable energy is integrated into the grid.
Responsibilities- Validate and analyze models to independently carry out a Financial Transmission Rights monthly auction.
- Collaborate with others to implement process improvements and transformative changes.
Education (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology.
Experience (Required)
- At least 8 years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 12 years of related energy industry work experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in Financial Transmission Rights market, Day‑Ahead Energy market, or Real‑time energy market design, operations, administration, or trading.
- At least 4 years of real‑time or market operations experience as an operator.
- Experience with power flow analysis and congestion forecasting.
- Experience with programming, automation, and data analytics.
- NERC certification.
Base salary range: $ – $ USD annually. This range is provided in compliance with state and local pay‑transparency legislation. Salary may vary based on location, experience, education, certifications, and qualifications.
