- Customizes and validates Horton products for use in OEM customer applications.
- Visits customer locations at project initiation to understand customer needs.
- Directs the modeling and drafting of concepts into design-ready drawings.
- Validates materials and concepts through analysis and testing, working closely with Test and Research staff.
- Determines readiness of product aspects for release and authorizes release of drawings and literature.
- Supports ongoing improvement of existing product designs.
- Develops test designs to measure function and quality of products and to test new ideas or modifications.
- Provides technical expertise in support of improvements to existing designs and authorizes product design revisions resulting from Engineering Change Requests.
- Provides engineering support to modify existing products to meet customer requirements while retaining functionality and quality.
- Directs the activities of the technical staff.
- Trains staff members in creative problem solving, product development, and the use of CAD software.
- Leads and prioritizes staff activities to develop an effective design unit.
- Provides design-related support to sales and management, assisting sales staff to respond to customer requests.
- Attends sales and marketing planning meetings to discuss design needs and brainstorm ideas to meet customer or market requirements.
- Travels with sales staff to customer locations to observe applications and collect information necessary for addressing specific needs.
- Attends trade shows and answers technical questions while staffing the trade show booth.
- Participates in vendor screening to evaluate products for use by the client.
- Provides technical product expertise to OEM and end customers.
- Provides on-site assistance to OEM customers to ensure successful application of Horton products.
- Provides field service to diagnose or repair equipment to meet client operational standards.
- Meets with various levels of customer staff, including decision makers and product users, to resolve problems with product applications.
- Provides diagnosis of field failures and reports the information.
- Maintains field service files to track product trends and reports potential trouble to Engineering Supervisor or Director of Engineering.
- Troubleshoots problems and identifies causes for warranty issues to prevent repeat occurrences.
- Collaborates with Engineering Manager, Sales account personnel, and Warranty Manager to resolve warranty matters regarding sold goods.
- Coordinates product field tests to determine production suitability of new or improved designs.
- Works with Engineering personnel and the PEP Coordinator to set up field tests to identify specific existing or potential future problems.
- Collects performance information in the field and writes detailed reports that contribute to design development.
- Provides technical training in support of Horton employees.
- Provides training to sales personnel.
- Provides product-related technical orientation to customer maintenance staff.
- Four-year engineering degree; 2–5 years of varied engineering experience.
