Engineer II – Electricity Markets Research and Development
Help power the grid and shape the future of electricity markets! Are you an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, working with data, and building tools that make a real-world impact? As MISO’s Engineer II on our Markets Research and Development team, you’ll help improve how electricity markets operate and how the power grid runs, supporting reliable energy for millions of people.
You’ll partner with experts across the organization to study operational events, evaluate ideas, develop tools, and generate simulation results that support data‑driven decision making.
- Apply power engineering and operations research skills to explore innovative options and recommend solutions.
- Gather and examine complex datasets to understand how markets and grid operations are performing.
- Build and maintain models and simulation tools to simulate and test electricity market solutions.
- Collaborate with teams across the organization to tackle challenges and strategically improve the electricity markets.
- Develop and refine algorithms that help make market and grid operations more efficient and reliable.
- Clearly document and present findings through reports, charts, and presentations to communicate insights effectively and accurately.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, electrical and computer engineering, electronic engineering, or related technical field and at least 2 years of experience (or equivalent).
- Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in electricity market design, operations, or research and development; or electricity market analysis; or system planning and development in academic and/or professional settings.
- Preferred experience with quantitative analysis, optimization algorithms, and power system modeling and simulation.
- Appropriate level determined based on experience and knowledge.
Base salary range: $96,000 – $113,000 USD annually. Eligibility for an annual bonus based on performance and company objectives. Benefits include 401(k), vacation, sick and safe time, available from the first day of employment.
