Overview
Senior Simulation Trainer: you will own the full lifecycle of simulation-based learning for MISO’s control room operators and engineers – from assessing needs and scripting scenarios to facilitating sessions, leading structured debriefs, and measuring program effectiveness. You will build a robust library of simulations spanning normal operations, abnormal conditions, and emergency response, with particular emphasis on contingency and system disturbance scenarios that challenge operators to perform under pressure.
You will bring firsthand knowledge of control room operations or energy management systems to design scenarios that are operationally rigorous, procedurally accurate, and grounded in how the grid actually behaves. You will partner with the simulator product owner, operations management, and technical SMEs to keep simulation content current and aligned to real-world conditions. You will also support foundational programs like new operator onboarding, on-the-job training, desk qualifications, and operator training drills – all aimed at building depth and bench strength in the control room.
(one-year target)
- Build and maintain a well-organized, operationally rigorous simulation scenario library – including abnormal and emergency scenarios – that is actively used by control room operators at all experience levels
- Establish strong, trusted relationships with operations employees, control room management, and technical SMEs
- Deliver structured debriefs that are recognized as high-quality learning experiences driving behavioral change and operational improvement
- Establish a metrics and evaluation framework that tracks operator performance trends and demonstrates the impact of simulation training on grid reliability outcomes
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience
- Prior experience as a control room operator or control room engineer, or equivalent hands-on experience with energy management systems – candidates with this background will be prioritized
- Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate simulation-based or scenario-based training, particularly in high-stakes or safety-critical environments
- Strong facilitation skills, including the ability to lead structured pre-briefings and post-simulation debriefs that produce real operational learning
- Demonstrated project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple simulation development efforts simultaneously
- The ability to negotiate and influence within a collaborative framework
- Experience with GE EMS simulator or a comparable energy management system simulator
- Working knowledge of Learning and Development tools and methodologies, including adult learning theory and instructional design frameworks such as ADDIE
- Experience designing evaluation and measurement frameworks tied to operational or performance outcomes
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
