Help shape the look, feel, and safety of one of Indiana's most recognized communities! The City of Carmel, Street Department is hiring a dedicated Skilled Laborer to play a key role in maintaining our roads, public spaces, and other city grounds. If you like seeing the direct results of your hard work and enjoy a mix of outdoor tasks and equipment operation, this role is a great fit!

What You'll Do

• Keep our streets safe and smooth by repairing pavement, patching holes, milling, pouring concrete, and maintaining sidewalks and curbs.
• Maintain public spaces through mowing, trimming, planting, landscaping, and tree/brush work.
• Protect the community during weather events by plowing snow, clearing storm debris, and supporting emergency response.
• Operate a variety of equipment including loaders, rollers, skid steers, chainsaws, sweepers, and more.
• Support major Carmel events like Carmel Fest, Christkindlmarkt, and the International Arts Festival.
• Perform basic maintenance on tools, vehicles, and equipment to keep operations running smoothly.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1–2 years of experience in road, grounds, or general labor work (or equivalent).
• Valid Class A Indiana CDL with tanker endorsement.
• Ability to use tablets/mobile technology.
• Physically able to lift up to 100 lbs. and work outdoors in all weather.
• Willing to be on 24-hour call during snow season and work extended hours when needed.
• A team player with a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and attention to safety.
