Description

Outreach is a Christian community service organization that provides counseling, case management, youth development, older adult services, and community development. For 50 years, Outreach has changed the lives of thousands of individuals, children, youth, and families in DuPage County, IL. We are seeking to hire a diverse staff of highly competent professional employees to advance Outreach’s mission to restore hope and provide opportunities for people to become all that God intends them to be.

Outreach is hiring a full‑time Controller at the Outreach Administrative Office to manage the Finance Department staff and oversee day‑to‑day finance and accounting operations, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Responsibilities
  • Advance Outreach’s mission and values by ensuring responsible fiscal management.
  • Ensure the organization complies with applicable accounting procedures and standards in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee the general ledger and the timely and accurate recording of transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Complete bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and month‑end adjusting journal entries.
  • Supervise three Finance Department staff members, providing ongoing supervision, training, and evaluation.
  • Maintain documentation in support of monthly financial statements.
  • Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts and cost expenditures.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Serve as audit liaison for each entity.
  • Schedule:

    Full‑time, 40-45 hours/week, Monday‑Friday.
Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a CPA certificate is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility, including staff management experience, is required; 8-10 years of experience and public accounting experience are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP is required.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations is required; experience with Sage is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and use computerized accounting software and tools as required.
  • Proven experience in all aspects of accounting functions, including internal controls and responsible fiscal management.
  • Commitment to process and system improvement.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to establish and manage multiple priorities and work under pressure while maintaining the highest professional standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Advanced technical skills with Microsoft Office, including a high level of proficiency in Excel.
  • Commitment to Outreach Community Ministries’ Statement of Mission and Faith is required.
