Quality Control Supervisor, Raw Materials

The Quality Supervisor, Raw Materials, will be responsible for overseeing the sampling, testing, inspection, and release of inbound raw materials. The position supports daily Quality activities and expands knowledge and training of Food Safety programs through short- and long-term projects. It also supports the larger Quality Systems Program of the site to ensure compliance with regulations and certifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee the inbound Raw Material Quality Control department, manage raw material evaluation on all incoming shipments and ensure representative lot samples are obtained and tested according to established specifications. Reviews documentation for completeness.
- Monitors and coordinates the status of raw and packaged materials to ensure materials are processed in a timely manner, communicating priority tasks and samples to the team and ensuring urgent issues are addressed.
- Coordinates and delegates laboratory testing by setting priorities based on the needs of operations. Arranges the annual calibration of laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Trains the team on the proper use, verification, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Manages the Quality portion of the new material (ECO) approval/review program. Tracks, assigns, and completes risk assessments for all new materials. Sets up inbound product specifications in Labware based on assessed risk.
- Performs and verifies validations on critical control steps. Assigns annual validations of methods, equipment, products, and food safety programs relevant to the department. Evaluates and reviews the effectiveness of inbound inspection and testing processes.
- Reviews standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation protocols, and reports as assigned. Reviews and approves method validations, stability protocols, logbook review, and other activities to support QC as assigned.
- Reviews submitted product deviation reports. Approves products for use under deviation and ensures processing instructions have been properly communicated to Planning and Operations. Traces and trends deviation reports and contacts suppliers and manufacturers for Corrective Actions. Monitors Out of Specification and Rejection incidents for trends and works with Procurement and Suppliers to resolve repeated incidents.
- Performs root cause analysis on Quality incidents. Enforces the implementation of necessary Corrective and Preventative actions.
- Oversees and monitors raw material stability and cost-savings through shelf-life evaluations and rework programs.
- Represents the department in monthly update meetings, shares departmental KPIs and communicates initiatives, campaigns, and new updates back to the department, and initiates projects designed to improve departmental performance.
- Co‑hosts customer, regulatory, and third‑party certification audits. Coordinates planning efforts for assigned audits and assists in Corrective Action plans.
- Reviews Quality programs against regulations and GFSI standards. Assembles the Quality Verification Binder, including program reviews, monthly, bi‑annual, and annual program review evidence.
- Coordinates the Internal Audit program. Assigns monthly audit assignments, reviews and stores completed documents, and action register. Trains new auditors and manages monthly review meetings.
- Leads, manages, and coaches the team. Produces annual SMART Goals for direct reports with a focus on developing further talent. Conducts regular coaching sessions. Communicates consistently with direct team as well as cross‑functionally across departments and divisions, ensuring all required Quality, HR, and Safety training is completed.
- Conducts routine physical inspections of the facility and manages corrective actions. Interfaces with department leaders to ensure effectiveness.
