Reports To: Plant Manager, Director of Manufacturing, Director of Quality

Position Summary

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the quality management system for a machining operation operating under ISO 9001. This role ensures products, processes, and documentation meet customer, regulatory, and internal requirements while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The Quality Manager works closely with production, engineering, supply chain, and leadership to maintain compliance, reduce defects, improve process capability, and support customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Management System
  • Maintain and improve the ISO 9001 quality management system.
  • Keep procedures, work instructions, forms, and records current and controlled.
  • Lead internal audits, support external audits, and coordinate corrective actions.
Quality Assurance and Control
  • Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities.
  • Ensure inspection methods, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria are followed.
  • Lead disposition of nonconforming material, including rework, repair, use-as-is, and scrap.
  • Track key metrics - scrap, rework, first-pass yield, customer complaints, and cost of issues.
  • Maintain calibration systems for measuring and testing equipment.
Problem Solving and Corrective Action
  • Lead root cause for internal defects, returns, supplier issues, and process escapes.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions using structured problem-solving methods.
  • Verify action effectiveness and ensure timely closure.
  • Promote preventive actions that improve process consistency and repeatability.
Machining Process Quality
  • Partner with manufacturing and engineering to improve quality across machining operations, including CNC turning, milling, drilling, and grinding.
  • Support control plans, process flow, inspection plans, and process validation.
  • Review drawings, GD&T, and customer requirements to ensure process compliance.
  • Assist with capability studies, first article inspection, mistake-proofing, and process controls.
Customer and Supplier Quality
  • Serve as the primary contact for customer audits, complaints, and corrective actions.
  • Support supplier qualification, corrective actions, and incoming quality improvement.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement
  • Lead and develop quality inspectors, technicians, and engineers, as applicable.
  • Provide quality reporting and recommendations for plant leadership.
  • Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen quality performance and process stability.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of quality leadership experience in a machining or metal manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Experience in machining processes, blueprint reading, tolerances, GD&T, and inspection methods.
  • Experience leading audits, corrective actions, and root cause investigations.
  • Familiarity with metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, bore gages, and CMM.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality reporting tools.
  • ASQ certification such as CQM, CQE, or CQA preferred.
