Job Description
We are seeking an Outside Sales Representative to join our low-voltage technology solutions team. In this role, you will drive new business and expand strategic relationships with medium to large-scale organizations headquartered in the Greater Chicagoland area. Your responsibilities include developing new prospects and interacting with assigned customers to increase sales and margin of the company's products and services. Your primary focus will be face‑to‑face selling and account management activities to meet sales revenue.
You will engage with all levels of the customer’s organization—including technical, operations, supply chain and executive management—and may develop and deliver sales bids, presentations, proposals and/or product demonstrations.
- Assess customer needs and suggest products, services, and/or solutions, ensuring a smooth sales process.
- Execute and expand assigned customer account plans developed in conjunction with management.
- Execute margin initiatives through value‑added services, marketing programs, and supplier engagement.
- Prospect potential customers, including cold calling and developing leads through referral channels.
- Communicate with customers and leads to identify and understand their product or service needs; suggest products and services to meet those needs.
- Demonstrate the functions and utility of products or services to customers based on their needs.
- Ensure customer satisfaction through ongoing communication and relationship management; resolve any post‑sale issues.
- Maintain communication with existing and previous customers, alerting them to new products, services, and enhancements of interest.
- Utilize sales management tools for planning, supplier engagement, and documenting opportunities.
- Develop and grow product knowledge through company and supplier training.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, including joint sales calls.
- Provide quotations directly or in conjunction with the sales support team.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior sales experience required; outside sales preferred.
- Two years of industry experience preferred.
- Ability to travel to current and potential clients and suppliers.
- Ability to work flexible schedule and occasional overnight travel.
- Excellent sales and negotiation skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Team‑oriented mindset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of advertising and sales promotion techniques (preferred).
- Travel commitment of 50%–75% of the time.
Outside Sales – Work is generally performed in an office environment, but the employee may need to travel to customer sites or warehouse facilities. Driving may be required for an extended period with frequent stops and starts. The role may expose the employee to outdoor weather conditions.
- This role includes the opportunity to earn commission in addition to base salary, with earnings tied to individual sales performance.
Compensation: $73,125 – $95,062 annually (base salary). Compensation may include bonuses or sales incentives and a commission structure, depending on the applicable plan. Eligible employees may also receive benefits such as paid time off, medical, dental, vision coverage, and retirement savings programs.
