Position OverviewInterstate Power Systems is seeking a skilled Construction Equipment Diesel Technician with experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment and off‑road machinery. This position is ideal for technicians with strong expertise in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mobile equipment diagnostics.
The successful candidate will work on a variety of construction and heavy equipment including excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, dozers, telehandlers, cranes, and other hydraulic‑powered machinery. This role combines shop and field service work to support customers in the construction, aggregate, road building, utility, and industrial industries.

Key Responsibilities Diagnostics & Repair- Diagnose and repair diesel‑powered construction and heavy equipment.
- Troubleshoot engine, transmission, drivetrain, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Utilize diagnostic software, service manuals, and testing equipment to identify equipment failures.
- Perform component repairs and replacements to minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, hoses, manifolds, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic pressure, flow, and performance issues.
- Perform hydraulic cylinder rebuilds and hose fabrication as needed.
- Test and verify hydraulic system operation following repairs.
- Repair and maintain hydrostatic drive systems and hydraulic attachments.
- Perform repairs and overhauls on diesel engines used in construction equipment.
- Diagnose fuel systems, emissions systems, cooling systems, and turbochargers.
- Repair transmissions, differentials, final drives, and undercarriage components.
- Perform engine performance troubleshooting and repairs.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, wiring harnesses, sensors, controllers, and CAN bus systems.
- Diagnose issues affecting machine operation, safety systems, and operator controls.
- Repair and replace electrical components as required.
- Perform scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance services.
- Conduct fluid analysis, filter replacement, lubrication services, and component inspections.
- Identify potential failures before they result in equipment downtime.
- Ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and operating at peak efficiency.
- Respond to customer job sites to diagnose and repair equipment in the field.
- Perform emergency breakdown repairs and maintenance services.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding repair recommendations and equipment status.
- Complete service documentation accurately and efficiently.
- Follow all company, OSHA, and customer safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Properly document inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Operate equipment safely while adhering to manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
- 3+ years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment, diesel equipment, or related machinery preferred.
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Experience with excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, dozers, telehandlers, cranes, compact equipment, or similar machinery preferred.
- Proficiency using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- ASE Heavy Duty Truck or Equipment Certifications.
- Manufacturer training (CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, Case, John Deere, JCB, Bobcat, Genie, JLG, etc.) a plus.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Hydraulic systems certification or advanced hydraulic training preferred.
