The IT Support Engineer I position handles end‑user support across desktop, network, security, email, phone systems, cable plant, and cloud services. Duties include configuring, installing, and maintaining workstations, printers, and network connections; providing technical support and training; troubleshooting and repairing hardware, software, and office equipment; installing and upgrading information systems; managing hard‑disk and software images; pulling copper and fiber cable; maintaining phone, video, and streaming equipment;
resolving end‑user problems; working with repair vendors; and supporting related tasks. The role reports directly to a Support Engineer II and is performed under moderate supervision.
The position requires light to medium physical exertion, including occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, and constant handling of up to 10 pounds of force. Work involves climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions. Vocal, hearing, and visual acuity are required for communication and data analysis. The work environment is moderately noisy and may include exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions.
QualificationRequirements
Successful candidates possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a college or university graduate with coursework in electronic data processing and programming, substantial experience with mid‑range and personal computers, network administration, and software application processes.
- Configuring, installing and maintaining workstations, network connections for workstations and printers; providing frequent technical support and training to users; troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining computer software, hardware, printers and office equipment; installing and upgrading information systems; preparing and maintaining files and records.
- Performs workstation maintenance and end‑user support.
- Performs all new workstation setup and deployment.
- Maintains, creates and updates hard disk images for new workstation deployment.
- Maintains, upgrades and creates workstation software images; updates processes and software.
- Pulls copper and fiber cable, works in ceilings and with network fiber optic and traditional OSP with other IT staff.
- Trains users on workstation PCs and software.
- Conducts phone system maintenance; resolves end‑user problems; works with repair/support vendor.
- Conducts video/streaming/camera equipment maintenance; resolves end‑user problems; works with repair/support vendors.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- May occasionally participate in town or public events representing IT.
Relevant experience includes thorough knowledge of enterprise data processing, hardware and software procedures, general office practices, and personal computer operation. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions, analyze software programs, adjust processes, and establish effective working relationships with associates.
