DescriptionWe are looking for an expert AMI Project Engineer (Field Instillation Specialist) to join our Metering team and play a key role in delivering our AMI 2.0 deployment programme.
In this role, you will act as the crucial technical and operational link between system build, business processes, and real world installation activities. You'll transform complex system and vendor requirements into clear, practical, safe and scalable installation standards used by our field teams.
This is a hands‑on, field-focused role where you will support installation teams, resolve technical challenges, and help ensure that our AMI deployment is safe, efficient, and repeatable at scale.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain installation standards, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions for AMI metering installations (single phase, three phase, involving CTs and VTs).
- Produce and update installation documentation aligned to AMI workflows and JE business processes.
- Act as the primary technical resource for critical issues during pilot and rollout, resolving complex or non-standard installation and commissioning issues.
- Capture and feed field learnings back into system configuration, installation standards, and training materials.
- Support FAT, SIT, UAT, and SAT testing activities, validating installation related scenarios and acceptance criteria.
- Contribute to installer training, toolbox talks, and technical briefings.
- Ensure all installation activity meets JE safety standards and industry regulations.
- Collaborate closely with Metering Engineers, AMI Engineers, Systems Administrators, and project teams to ensure alignment between physical installation and system capability.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong background in electricity metering installation and commissioning.
- Experience with single phase and three phase electrical installations.
- Practical experience supporting field teams in live customer environments.
- High level of safety awareness along with skill in leading safe working practices.
- Strong technical problem solving skills and ability to work in constrained, real world environments.
- Clear and concise technical documentation writing skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in large-scale metering rollouts or replacement programmes.
- Exposure to smart metering, AMI systems, or MDM environments.
- Understanding of CT and VT metering arrangements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Electrical engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
- Relevant electrical authorisations (e.g., LV authorised).
- Clean driving licence.
