Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract at an acute care hospital, requiring at least 1 year of OR experience across a broad range of surgical cases.

Responsibilities
  • Work setting is an acute care hospital OR department with 5 main OR suites, 1 OB/OR, and 1 Endoscopy suite
  • Average caseload is approximately 12 cases per day
  • Common cases include Mako total joints, ventral/DV hernias, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, endoscopy, pacemaker placement, C-sections, exploratory laparotomy, cataracts, urology, ENT, and pediatric cases (appendectomies, foreign body removal, tonsillectomies, tube placement, and post-tonsil bleeds)
  • Scrubbing is not required for this role
  • OR techs are available on the unit
  • EMR system is MEDITECH
  • Scheduled Monday–Friday, 6:45am–3:15pm with a team huddle at 7am; schedules are 5x8s or 4x10s — no self-scheduling
  • Weeknight call required a minimum of one night per week (3:15pm–7am, one RN and one tech on call)
  • Weekend call required a minimum of one weekend per month (Friday 3:15pm through Monday 7am)
  • Holiday call coverage required for at least one holiday
  • Call response time is 30 minutes
  • Hospital-provided scrubs are required — no personal scrubs
  • Orientation is flexible and not a fixed duration; at minimum, a half-day unit tour is provided, with additional case-specific orientation as needed
  • The OR Director may reach out to candidates prior to their start date
  • The OR team has a strong, collaborative culture built over many years — candidates should be team-oriented, adaptable, and supportive of the existing work environment
  • Concerns or questions should be directed to the OR Director; a cooperative, go-with-the-flow attitude is important for success in this unit
Requirements
  • Active IA RN license or Compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS (both AHA)
  • PALS certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of OR experience required
  • Experience across the full range of cases performed on this unit is required
  • No first-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
