Position Overview

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support nursing care standards through adherence to existing policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and document comprehensive nursing history from patients and/or significant others, perform basic assessments, record vital signs, and pursue further investigations as needed.
  • Use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to enter and document orders.
  • Develop and communicate care plans, ensuring information is sufficient for incoming staff.
  • Provide safe and therapeutic care, communicating with patients, families, and the healthcare team, and supervising nonprofessional personnel.
  • Evaluate patient responses to nursing care as defined in the care plan and medical records.
  • Respond to emergency medical situations urgently, providing first aid and/or CPR as required.
  • Provide training, education, and guidance to L.P.N.s, C.M.A.s, and C.N.A.s as needed.
  • Consult with and keep the Charge Nurse/Supervisor informed of patient status and needs.
  • Participate in department quality improvement activities and patient teaching assignments.
  • Complete required CEUs and maintain an active, current license.
  • Maintain friendly, courteous interpersonal communication and a positive service attitude.
  • Participate in performance improvement and educational activities.
  • Work willingly, accept assignments as given, and attend mandatory meetings and programs.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Comply with Corporate Compliance Policy, all applicable laws, and standards of conduct, reporting any suspected violations.
  • Comply with state, federal regulations, and JCAHO standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, following standard precautions and hazardous waste procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, resident, employee, and organizational information.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may assist physicians with special unit procedures and provide guidance to L.P.N.s, C.M.A.s, and C.N.A.s.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current state license.
  • Two years of professional nursing experience in an acute care setting (Med/Surg/Peds or ICU preferred).
Certifications
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • ACLS and PALS certification within six months of employment.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to establish a caring, compassionate relationship with patients and families.
  • Ability to collaborate with the healthcare team to use evidence‑based practice.
  • Expertise in handling sophisticated medical equipment.
  • Effective time‑management skills.
  • Ability to carry out assignments with minimal supervision and guidance.
Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, patients, families, and other employees.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, and use hands; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach. Frequently walk and sit; lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Required to meet specific vision abilities and be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.

Work Environment

May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock, and blood‑borne pathogens. May encounter unpleasant sights, odors, materials, toxic or caustic chemicals, radiation, high or precarious places, and vibration. Typical noise level is moderate.
