Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs all responsibilities outlined in the Registered Nurse job description.
- Coordinates and supervises the daily operations and nursing functions of the assigned clinical unit(s).
- Supports and guides staff in patient care decisions, prioritization, and interventions.
- Assists with patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and direct care as needed.
- Demonstrates effective leadership and ability to grow as a leader through communication, teamwork, and accountability.
- Delegates tasks appropriately based on skill and scope of practice.
- Provides real-time and constructive feedback and guidance to team members.
- Makes staffing assignments based on patient acuity, unit census, and staff skill mix.
- Manages shift-to-shift staffing, including emergency staffing adjustments, in collaboration with the Staffing Coordinator, Department Director, and House Supervisor.
- Coordinates replacement staffing and assists with "on-call" or low census staffing planning.
- Facilitates or participates in interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings and team huddles; leads huddles in the absence of the department director.
- Participates in departmental quality improvement initiatives and audits as assigned.
- Assists with policy and procedure development and implementation.
- Attends staff meetings and promotes ongoing professional development.
- Supports orientation and training for new staff.
- Promotes a safe, clean, organized, and patient-centered environment.
- Responds to emergency situations such as rapid responses, codes, and trauma activations.
- Upholds a positive, professional, and service-oriented attitude with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Maintains confidentiality and complies with all laws, standards of conduct, and organizational policies.
- Uses safe work practices and complies with all infection control and safety protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include assisting with interviewing, onboarding, training, performance input, coaching, and conflict resolution in coordination with the Department Director or House Supervisor.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- Current RN license to practice in the state—required.
- Previous hospital experience as a Registered Nurse—required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)—preferred.
- Previous leadership experience—preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required within six months.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required within six months.
- Department-specific certification may be required (e.g., Oncology Certification).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to build caring, compassionate relationships with patients and families.
