DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a CCU position requiring 3 years of CCU experience and a valid IA or compact RN license.
Details- Work in the CCU (Critical Care Unit) of an acute care hospital with a Trauma Level 4 designation
- Unit has 6 beds set up for CCU-level patients and will flex to accommodate Med Surg Peds patients as needed
- Nurse-to-patient ratio goal is 1:2 but may be up to 1:4 depending on acuity and Med Surg Peds needs
- Common diagnoses include CHF, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, and DKA, with occasional central line insertions, thoracentesis, and paracentesis performed by providers
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, insulin, and nor epinephrine
- Uses MEDITECH as the charting system/EMR
- Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts starting at 7pm on a 6-week cyclic schedule
- Required to work every third weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun, with some flexibility to Sat/Sun/Mon)
- Holiday coverage required based on contract season (1 major and 1 minor holiday)
- Floating required to the Med Surg Peds side due to Critical Access Hospital designation; rare floating to other departments, with optional cross-training to behavioral health and ER
- RT coverage is available during weekday daytime hours only; nights and weekends require the CCU nurse and House Supervisor to manage BiPAP, ventilators, and other respiratory therapy needs
- No dedicated Tele/Monitor Techs on the unit; CCU nurses monitor telemetry themselves and must have coverage to leave the unit
- Active RN license (IA or Compact) required, with willingness to wait for licensure
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
- TNCC, NIHSS, and PALS certifications preferred
- Minimum 3 years of CCU experience required
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
- Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience preferred but not required
- BSN not required for this position
- Must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Responsible for managing titratable drips and monitoring telemetry independently on the unit
- Charge Nurse oversees both Med Surg Peds and CCU sides but typically does not carry a patient caseload unless needed for patient influx or staffing needs
- House Supervisor is based out of the ED and oversees the entire hospital and nursing home, providing coverage for CCU breaks and lunches as well as respiratory therapy support during nights and weekends
- Nurse aide support available at a goal ratio of 1:6 on day shift and 1:8 on night shift, varying by census and staffing
- No in-house hospitalist or intensivist; patients are managed by their private physicians, with the ER physician responding to emergencies and codes
- Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
- Dress code allows grey, black, pink, or white scrubs in any color combination
- Physical med drawer keys must be checked out from the Pyxis at the start of shift and returned at the end; a replacement fee applies if not returned
- Nurses should stay informed of unit quality projects and initiatives and support efforts to meet those goals
